Choosing a Vein Doctor
Today, patients can have many confusing options when looking for evaluation and treatment of their vein problem. At Vein and Laser Specialists, we recommend that the prospective patient compare his or her doctor's credentials, which include education, training, board certification, professional memberships and finally, years of experience in the field of phlebology. It is important to differentiate between a true phebology practice such as VLS and the occasional vein therapist, in that we will look for the causes of your veins and treat them at the source,
For example, spider veins do not exist by themselves, but are connected to larger, blue feeding veins, called reticular veins. Many providers will treat your spider veins without treating the reticulars. Eventually, blood flow in the reticular veins will reopen the related spider veins, sometimes in only a few months. A few patients who have had such treatments even comment that the spider veins never went away! Our goal is to make your investment in your health and appearance worthwhile. In the case of spider veins, Eurofoam-SV®, developed by Dr. Agostini, has proven to be the safer, more effective way to treat spider and reticular veins. Patients experience fantastic, long-lasting results.
Vein and Laser Specialists has a multitude of evaluative and treatment technologies to accurately treat all of your vein problems.
What is Phlebology?
Phlebology is the medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of vein disorders. Previously ignored by the medical profession with such comments as: “Its only cosmetic—don't worry about it”, “Live with it” and “Don't cross your legs”, phlebology has become a well-established medical discipline with its own board-certification. Improved technology and the introduction of non-invasive, patient-friendly, office-based treatments have helped to markedly diminish the evolution of a treatable vein problem into becoming a serious health issue in the future.
Phlebology encompasses clinical evaluation, including an ultrasound examination, to determine the exact origin of the venous problem and ultimately to assist in devising a treatment plan to alleviate visible and clinical symptoms. At Vein and Laser Specialists, your consultation will include a full review of your health history, as well as an examination by Dr. Agostini. He will determine your need for and ultrasound exam and perform it himself to ensure an appropriate treatment plan.
